Two deputies were shot in the line of duty by a lone suspect just after midnight. The deputies returned fire fatally injuring the suspect.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced this morning that two Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies were shot just after midnight. The deputies were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The lone suspect was shot and killed. Sheriff Grady Judd and State Attorney Brian Haas are expected to brief the media around 6:15 a.m. this morning at Hunt Fountain Park (Duff Park).

The media staging area will be on Duff Road west of the intersection at Green Road in Lakeland. Authorities have not said anything about the extent of the deputies’ injuries or what led up to the shooting.
