26-year-old charged with manslaughter in fatal Portland crash

The Portland Police Bureau has announced charges against a 26-year-old in connection to a December 2023 fatal crash. Around 5:02 p.m. on December 25, 2023, East Precinct officers responded to a vehicle crash on Southeast 122nd Avenue near Southeast Powell Boulevard. PPB says one of the drivers suffered critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital where they passed away.

The victim was later identified as 24-year-old Conner Wells. Further investigation determined that Wells was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Mason, according to authorities. On January 26, 2024, a Multnomah County Grand Jury returned a 10-count indictment against 26-year-old Martell Mason. US Marshals Task Force members arrested Mason on a warrant on March 27, 2024.

Mason was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. Mason is charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, Reckless Driving, two counts of Assault in the Fourth Degree, and four counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
