A man has been arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend violently. The Barstow Police Department reports that its Dispatch Center received a report from the Barstow Community Hospital about a violent injury around 3:24 a.m. on May 8, 2024.

BPD officers responded to the hospital and spoke to the victim who said her boyfriend, 24-year-old Johnny Ray Gutierrez, assaulted her, choked her, and forced her into a vehicle. Then, he allegedly drove her from their apartment to another location.

BPD says Gutierrez eventually took the victim home before fleeing the area. Authorities report the victim had visible injuries consistent with her statement. Later on the same day, BPD detectives found Gutierrez’s vehicle parked near the apartment and confirmed the suspect was inside.

After obtaining a search warrant, authorities safely took Gutierrez into custody without incident. During a search of the apartment, BPD detectives say they found a loaded 9mm handgun. Gutierrez was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail for Domestic Battery and Kidnapping.
