Houston Police looking for Richard Taplin in connection to fatal shooting of his sister

The Houston Police Department is searching for a 35-year-old man who has been charged with murder and other charges. According to HPD, officers responded to a shooting in a parking lot at 8100 Martin Luther King Boulevard around 9:50 p.m. on April 27, 2024.

At the scene, officers found 24-year-old Sarah Taplin suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators say an argument took place between the victim and an unidentified female.

The suspect, 35-year-old Richard Taplin, allegedly took a firearm from someone nearby, pointed it at the unidentified female, and fired as she fled. Authorities say Richard was shooting indiscriminately into a crowded gas station parking lot across the street.

The suspect’s sister, Sarah Taplin, was hit at least once. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended. HPD says Richard Taplin is charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful carry of a weapon with a felony conviction.
