San Jose Tayesa Knight

Former Shallenberger Home and School Association President charged with writing fraudulent checks to herself totaling $400,000

The former president of the Shallenberger Home and School Association (SHSA) has been arrested and charged for grand theft and forgery. The San Jose Police Department reported it received an online report about potential theft from an organization that aids enrichment programs at the Schallenberger Elementary School in the 1200 block of Koch Lane around 4:28 p.m. on July 20, 2023.

SJPD Financial Crimes Unit detectives say they discovered that SHSA had suspicious financial transactions between 2019 and 2023. Detectives identified the suspect as Tayesa Knight who was the president of SHSA during that time. It is alleged that Knight wrote around 45 fraudulent checks totaling more than $400,000 to herself.

Authorities say the checks were supposed reimbursement checks for services that were not rendered. On April 23, 2024, Knight was arrested in San Jose and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
