Domestic violence incident involving firearm leads to standoff with Spring City Police Department

The Spring City Police Department was involved in a standoff with a domestic violence suspect last night. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Around 11:18 p.m. on April 29, 2024, SCPD officers responded to the 200 block of New Street for a report of a domestic incident.

SCPD reports that officers arrived and found a victim with obvious physical injuries. EMS responded to treat the victim. Officers attempted to enter the residence but were stopped by a family member who said the suspect had a firearm.

SCPD has identified the suspect as 52-year-old Daniel Montalto Sr. Officers from various agencies responded to the scene to assist the Spring City Police Department. Efforts were made to speak to the suspect using an intercom system, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

SCPD reports that the suspect fired multiple times inside the home while the Chester County Emergency Response Team established a perimeter around the home. Around 3:14 a.m., the Montalto came outside and surrendered to law enforcement.

Montalto is facing various charges, including aggravated assault, assault of law enforcement officer, endangering the welfare of children, and simple assault.
