The Columbus Police Department is searching for 31-year-old Samuel Haynes in connection to the death of his father, Billy Haynes. CPD reports that Patrol Division officers responded to the 1000 block of Lawyers Lane for a welfare check around 5 p.m. on November 19, 2023.

At the scene, officers found a man decomposed in a bedroom. The initial call was concerning a welfare check for Billy Hayes. CPD confirms the body found inside the residence was that of Billy Haynes.

The autopsy determined that the victim died of stab or puncture wounds and the case was ruled as a homicide. CPD reports that evidence collected from the scene and several items were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for processing.

Probable cause was established and a warrant for Murder was issued for 31-year-old Samuel Haynes who is the son of the victim. Columbus Police are searching for the suspect at this time.
