Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting after victim arrives at hospital with gunshot wound

This morning, a man arrived at the Buchanan County Health Center Emergency Room with a gunshot wound. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. According to BCSO, an adult male arrived at the ER with a gunshot wound around 9:05 a.m. on April 27, 2024.

The victim was brought to the hospital in a private vehicle. The incident reportedly occurred at a residence in Winthrop. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Authorities say the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The Buchanan County Health Center was placed into a precautionary lockdown since all involved parties were not accounted for at the time. BCSO says the investigation moved to a residence in the 200 block of West 220th Street in Winthrop based on evidence found at the hospital.

The male victim was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for additional treatment. At this time, the victim’s condition is not known. Authorities say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
