4-year-old child injured in accidental shooting in Charlotte North Carolina

A 4-year-old child was injured in an accidental shooting in the University City Division of Charlotte. According to the Charlotte Police Department, University City Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call in the 8800 block of North Tryon Street just before 9 p.m. on Sunday.

At the scene, officers learned that a 4-year-old child had been taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand. CMPD says the child’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation suggests the wound was the result of an accidental shooting with an unsecured firearm. It is believed that the shooting occurred in the 10300 block of Wheatside Drive.

Following the shooting, the child’s father transported the child to the hospital for treatment. Charges are pending.
