The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is investigating after a juvenile was shot in the face by another juvenile. RRPD reports that its officers responded to the 100 block of Madison Street for a report of a juvenile shot in the face around 8 p.m. on June 28, 2024.
RRPD says the investigation indicates that the juvenile victim was shot at their residence on Madison Street by another juvenile. It is believed that the shooting is accidental in nature.
The juvenile victim was transported to ECU North for treatment of a single gunshot wound that entered one side of their face and exited the opposite side. The bullet landed in the victim’s shoulder after exiting their face.
RRPD says the victim was able to identify the juvenile shooting. The suspect is known to law enforcement. Juvenile petitions are being sought at this time, but the juvenile is not yet in custody.
The victim is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
