An 83-year-old man has been convicted by an Arapahoe County jury of killing his wife and disabled daughter. The District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District reports that Reginald L. Maclaren was convicted of the double homicide.
On March 25, 2023 around 6 p.m., Maclaren called the Englewood Police Dispatch to say he believed his wife and daughter were murdered. At the scene, officers noticed two large black trash cans in the living room.
One bin contained the severed body of Maclaren’s wife. The other contained the severed body of his disabled daughter. Officers found a large ax in a closet and a hand saw near the garbage cans.
Maclaren told officers he bought the saw and trashcans from The Home Depot. He allegedly told authorities he had recently lost his job and did not want to be homeless. Authorities say Maclaren struck his wife and daughter multiple times in the head with the ax.
He then used a saw to dismember their bodies before putting them in trash containers. Maclaren was also convicted of two counts of Tampering with a Deceased Body and False Reporting. He will be sentenced on July 10, 2024.
