A man is behind bars following a stabbing in Schenectady. In a press release, the Schenectady Police Department reported that it is investigating a stabbing in the 1700 block of Albany Street.
SPD officers responded to the scene around 8:25 p.m. on May 3 for a report of a victim who had been assaulted. At the scene, officers found a 43-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds.
SPD says the man was bleeding severely and his injuries are life-threatening. The victim was transported to the Albany Medical Center. Officers were able to locate camera footage of the incident and a suspect description.
The suspect was located near the crime scene an hour and a half later. The suspect was detained and interviewed by the SPD Detective Division. 23-year-old Belford Atchison was charged with Assault in the 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree.
SPD says the victim’s condition has stabilized.
