Santa Fe Police executed warrants for the arrest of three teens for their roles in a plot that led to the physical assault of a 19-year-old male. On November 22, 2023, authorities arrested 15-year-old Josue Mercado of Santa Fe, 16-year-old Juan Carlos Montellano of Santa Fe, and 15-year-old Jocelyn Alvarez of Santa Fe.

Evidence collected during the course of the investigation revealed that Alvarez, Mercado, and Montellano lured the 19-year-old victim to an area park to meet Alvarez with the intent to beat him. The suspects and several other juveniles carried out the attack.

Alvarez, Mercado, and Montellano have been charged with three counts of conspiracy. Montellano and Mercado received additional charges for kidnapping. All three juveniles were transported to the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center.
