Two people arrested after dog shot with an arrow at in Greece NY

Two people have been arrested after a dog was shot with an arrow in Greece, New York. The Greece Police Department reports that its officers responded to Adeline Park for a report of a dog shot with an arrow.

At the scene, officers spoke to the owner and confirmed his golden retriever had been shot with an arrow in the torso. The dog was transported to an urgent care facility before being taken to an animal hospital in Niagara Falls for surgery.

GPD says the investigation led to a residence on Denise Road. Officers learned that two residents were in their yard doing target practice with a crossbow. An arrow fired from the yard struck the dog as the owner was walking it.

Officers recovered the crossbow. 56-year-old James Smith and 45-year-old Linnette Torres have been charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st. Torres is also charged with Criminal Mischief 4th for injuring the dog.

GPD says CID detectives consulted with the ASPCA and NYSDEC for additional charges. GPD does not believe Smith or Torres intended to injure the dog but acted in a reckless manner.
