On November 24, 2023 around 9:40 AM, the Johnstown Police Department arrested an adult male for felony drug charges. The Johnstown Police transported the man to the local hospital where he was medically cleared. Once the man was transported to the Larimer County Jail, police say he started showing signs of a possible overdose during the booking process. As a result, he was transported back to the hospital.

After 9 PM, the man was medically discharged and booked into the jail. A deputy conducting routine status checks found the inmate unresponsive in his cell on November 23 around 1:30 PM. Deputies and medical staff rendered aid immediately, but the inmate passed away. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that the inmate was the only person assigned to the cell and was alone inside.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. The man’s identity will be released at a later time.
