State of Florida will seek death penalty against Kevin Torres who is accused of killing two men and a teenager

The Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit has filed notices of intent to seek the death penalty in the case against Kevin Torres. Previously, a grand jury returned three first-degree murder indictments against Torres for his alleged involvement in the 2021 shooting deaths of two men and one teen in Osceola County, Florida. According to the Office of the State Attorney, Torres was in his apartment on November 16, 2021 when he fatally shot 44-year-old Justin Atkinson in the head.

Then, Torres allegedly went to the victim’s apartment where he fatally shot Atkinson’s 16-year-old son Calvin Atkinson and Calvin’s friend, 25-year-old Anthony Mull. Torres is also accused of mutilating Mull’s body with a curtain rod and torch. The State of Florida will seek the death penalty because there are sufficient aggravating circumstances, according to a press release.
