New York State Police investigated a report of a potential sex crime on August 29, 2023, in Randolph, New York. Following an investigation, detectives determined a 19-year-old male restrained a 14-year-old girl and forced her to have sexual intercourse.

The victim suffered injuries around her neck. A sexual assault evidence collection kit was retrieved for lab analysis.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Jayden Shugars of Randolph, New York. Detectives charged Shugars with first- and second-degree rape and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing.

Shugars was transported to Cattaraugus County Jail.
