A Gallatin Tennessee man has been indicted on a theft charge

An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has led to an indictment of a Gallatin man. According to a press release from the TBI, agents began investigating an allegation of theft by Mayolo Ochoa in July 2021 at the request of 18th Judicial District Attorney General Ray Whitley. Agents say the victim purchased a property in Sumner County in May 2020 from a third party.

Ochoa is accused of telling the victim that a $50,000 down payment was required in addition to the purchase price in the promissory note. The victim made payments on the promissory note to the property’s seller and paid the down payment to Ochoa. Authorities claim the down payment was fictitious and was manufactured by Ochoa for his sole benefit.

On November 9, a Sumner County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Mayolo Ochoa charging him with one count of theft. Ochoa was arrested and booked at the Sumner County Jail on a $5,000 bond on November 17.
