Houston Police Department has released the identity of the victim of a fatal shooting on November 9, 2023. The 20-year-old victim has been identified as Matthew Harris.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., HPD officers were dispatched to 1400 Lamar Street to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound(s). The victim was pronounced deceased at Ben Taub General Hospital.

Following an investigation, detectives determined the victim and several other individuals approached two males, one of whom was wearing a yellow and black costume, with a camera at the intersection of Lamar Street and Austin Street. A dispute ensued. The male wearing a costume allegedly shot Harris before fleeing on foot with the other male.

Detectives say that the suspect and the other male returned to the area a few hours later. They drove away in a white new model Mazda 3 Hatchback Crossover.

HPD detectives spoke with the alleged suspect. The case will be referred to the Harris County grand jury.
