Yuma Police arrest 14-year-old with machete at Yuma High School

The Yuma Police Department has arrested a 14-year-old student for having a machete at school. YPD reports that the School Resource Officer was informed that a student had a machete at Yuma High School at 400 South 6th Avenue around 7:30 a.m. on October 1, 2024.

Four students ran from the cafeteria bathroom before being contacted by the SRO. The students reported that another student had displayed a machete towards them in the bathroom.

The SRO learned that the offending student fled out through the front door of the school. YPD says the machete was found outside the school. The suspect was located back on the school campus.

The 14-year-old student was taken into custody and removed from campus. YPD says the student was booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center on felony and misdemeanor charges.
