Investigators with the Woodland Police Department now say a toddler got behind the wheel of the vehicle in a recent deadly accident. Around 3:46 p.m. on March 16, 2024, officers responded to the 300 block of West Street for a report of a child who had been hit by a vehicle. Responding officers determined that a two-year-old child had been hit and was transported to an area hospital by family members.
She succumbed to her injuries. The owner of the truck was found at the scene. Detectives say the truck was left running while parked at a gas pump. A three-year-old child was inside in the backseat of the truck in a car seat. The man entered the gas station store when the three-year-old got out of their car seat and into the driver’s seat.
WPD says the truck began moving forward and it collided with a two-year-old who was near a taco stand on the edge of the lot. Authorities say everyone has been cooperative and an arrest has not been made.
