The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man who had nearly 600 Xanax pills. On December 13, 2023, a traffic stop on a vehicle that committed multiple traffic violations was conducted near Interstate 57 and Herrin Road in Johnston City. While speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, deputies noticed inconsistencies in their statements. Authorities say both occupants appeared nervous and the odor of marijuana was detected in the vehicle.
A check of the occupants’ identities determined that the passenger, Warren J. Mangum, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody by deputies. While Mangum was walking to the patrol car, deputies noticed he was traveling slowly and with hesitation. Authorities say he claimed not to have anything illegal on his person.
Deputies had his shoes removed to inspect them for contraband, but nothing was located. Mangum was taken to the Williamson County Jail where a body scanner identified an anomaly. WCSO said a more thorough search of Mangum’s body resulted in the discovery of a large plastic bag containing white pills inside and protruding out of a body cavity.
Authorities identified the contraband as 599 pills of Alprazolam or Xanax which is classified as a Scheduled 4 controlled substance. Magnum was cited for Controlled Substance Trafficking and Possession of Controlled Substance.
