The Portland Police Bureau has announced the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of 50-year-old James David Mack. Portland Police Bureau homicide detectives say they were able to identify 27-year-old William M. Maingi as the suspect involved in the homicide through their investigation.
On December 6, 2023, Maingi was indicted for the murder of Mack by a Multnomah County Grand Jury. Homicide detectives and East Metro SWAT apprehended Maingi on December 10, 2023. He was transferred to the Multnomah County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Portland Police Department was dispatched to the 3700 block of Southeast 154th Avenue in the Centennial Neighborhood at 10:14 p.m. on November 25, 2023, to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a deceased victim on the front porch of the residence.
Detectives with the Portland Police Department later identified the victim as 50-year-old James David Mack of Portland. The medical examiner’s office ruled Mack’s death a homicide by gunshot wound.
