Whatcom Sheriff’s Office arrests Blaine man for attempted murder in violent assault

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Blaine man who has been charged with attempted murder. WCSO reports that 43-year-old Clayton E. DuBois is charged with Attempted Murder 2nd (Domestic Violence) and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd.

DuBois was initially detained on Suspicion of Driving Under the Influence. Bellingham Police responded to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center around 3:40 a.m. on August 20. Hospital security personnel were trying to detain DuBois who dropped off a bloodied person and was trying to leave.

BPD says DuBois admitted to consuming drugs and alcohol. He was arrested for DUI. BPD reports that DuBois told them he had assaulted the victim and was trying to kill him at a residence in Blaine.

He allegedly “had a change of heart” and took the victim to the hospital. WCSO deputies visited the Blaine residence where they found evidence of a serious assault. Deputies say they found a gun safe containing two firearms.

DuBois is reportedly a convicted felon and not allowed to have firearms. The victim has since been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
