The Wausau Police Department is seeking information related to a convenience store robbery that happened on the city’s northeast side. The robbery occurred at the R-Store at 1511 North 3rd Street on Friday evening. According to WPD, officers responded to the store for a silent alarm just before 10 p.m. on December 29, 2023.
Police say an individual entered the convenience store, approached the checkout, and asked for a Black and Mild cigar. No other customers were present at the time of the incident. The individual brandished what the employee believed was a handgun concealed in a plastic bag and demanded money.
The employee handed the suspect the money from the register before the suspect fled on foot. Police say the suspect was last seen running south along the east side of the store toward DeKalb Street. According to WPD, the suspect is reported to be a black male with a slender build.
He was wearing a long black gown that reached his shoes, a black hooded winter jacket, blue thin knit gloves, and was concealing his face with a white gauze. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ben Thumann at 715-261-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-409-8777.
