A Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office detective was struck by a vehicle driven by a wanted suspect earlier today. KCSO reports that detectives with the Special Investigations Unit were in the area of Spokane Street and Seltice Way in Post Falls around 12:45 p.m.
Detectives located Emanuel V. Zavala who had multiple warrants for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Detectives tried to stop Zavala in the parking lot of a gas station. One detective got out of the vehicle to contact Zavala who allegedly drove towards and struck the detective with his vehicle.
The detective lunged out of the way to avoid serious injury. SIU detectives followed the suspect to a residence nearby on 3rd Avenue and Spokane Street. Zavala reportedly ran inside leading to a standoff. KCSO deputies, Post Falls officers, and Idaho State Police troopers responded to the scene.
SWAT responded when Zavala refused to exit the residence. Eventually, Zavala surrendered peacefully. He was booked on several charges, including Aggravated Battery on a Peace Officer, Felony Eluding Causing Injury, multiple Probation Violations, and multiple Sex Offender Registry Violation Warrants.
