Virginia State Police asking for public’s help in identifying hit-and-run victim in Augusta County

The Virginia State Police is asking for the public’s help in identifying a hit-and-run victim in Augusta County. On January 21, 2024 just before 4 a.m., VSP responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 81 near the 210 mile marker. VSP said a middle-aged white male was walking along the southbound lanes when he was hit by a vehicle.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The victim had no identification on him. He had a tattoo on his right leg and was carrying a backpack. The man was dressed in black with a hoodie that said “Missouri” on it. Police say he was wearing white Nike sneakers.

The victim’s body was taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Virginia State Police at 540-444-7778. Virginia State Police and the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office identified the vehicle in Fisherville and a 26-year-old male was taken into custody.

The 26-year-old is charged with one count hit-and-run and one count of involuntary manslaughter.
