The Virginia Beach Police Department said two officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting on January 12, 2024. Around 7:04 p.m., officers with the Virginia Beach Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Riverfront Court for a report of a dispute in progress.

At the scene, officers knocked on the door repeatedly and announced their presence. According to a news release, a male subject opened the door and confronted officers with a firearm. Two officers discharged their firearms hitting the male subject. The man was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

VBPD said a firearm was recovered at the scene. The subject has been identified as 32-year-old Brian Besecker who is charged with three counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Domestic Assault. Authorities expect additional charges to be filed.
