Vermont State Police identify the victims in a fatal double stabbing in Newport Town at approximately 3:15 p.m. on December 25, 2023. Donald Coull, 58, sustained a fatal stab wound to the chest. Trevor Stone, 39, sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound(s) during the incident.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Coull’s cause of a death a stab wound to the chest.

Coull and Stone were involved in an altercation when Coull was stabbed in the chest. Stone sustained minor lacerations. Responding troopers found Coull deceased at the scene. Stone was taken to an area hospital via a private vehicle.

Stone lived in a camper on the property. Stone was treated for a stab wound at North Country Hospital. He has since been released.

No charges have been filed at this time.
