New South Wales Police Force was dispatched to Market Street in Balranald at 3:15pm on December 13, 2023, to investigate a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 9-year-old male who had been struck by a vehicle. Treatment was rendered at the scene by New South Wales Ambulance medics.

The victim was transported to Balranald District Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The 43-year-old driver of the involved vehicle was transported to an area hospital for mandatory testing.
