On November 14, 2023, Boston’s Enforcement and Removal Operations “ERO” team apprehended an illegal immigrant at Martha’s Vineyard. The 37-year-old Brazilian national was wanted for raping a 5-year-old child.
According to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “ICE” press release, the noncitizen fled Brazil after receiving a 14-year prison sentence related to multiple convictions for child sex crimes.
In May 2019, the 2nd Criminal Court of Sorriso in the town of Sorriso, Mato Grosso in Brazil issued an arrest warrant after the man failed to appear in court as ordered.
The Brazilian national is remanded to ERO custody awaiting a final order of removal.
