Lexington Police Department identified the driver of a stolen U-Haul as 31-year-old Jonathan Dillon who has multiple outstanding felony warrants for drug possession. After failing to heed a traffic stop on South Main Street, a driver of a stolen U-Haul initiated a police pursuit on December 17, 2023, at 4:51 p.m.
At one point in the pursuit, the U-Haul struck a North Carolina State Highway Patrol cruiser. The trooper was assisting in the pursuit.
The stolen U-Haul came to a rest at Riverview Road Extension near River Point after crashing into a tree. Dillon emerged from the U-Haul, took off on foot, and eluded arrest.
Jonathan Dillon was apprehended in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 19, 2023, by the U.S. Marshals.
Dillon was remanded to the Davidson County Jail on a no-bond status. Dillon is facing additional charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony speed to elude arrest, hit and run, and assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer.
