According to a social media post from the Utica Police Department, 30-year-old Tyrell Brown turned himself in with the assistance of his attorney relative. Brown was wanted in relation to an open arrest warrant for murder in the second degree in connection to the shooting homicide of Kwamae Smith on November 11, 2023.

Since then, Utica Police have been working with its county, state, and federal partners to search for Brown. Today, Brown was booked on charges of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
