According to the Chicago Police Department, a 20-year-old male and a 26-year-old man have been charged in the armed robbery and vehicular hijacking that happened in the 9300 block of South Pleasant Avenue on the night of November 2. Police say a woman was returning home with her 12-year-old child. As they were exiting their vehicle in their driveway, they were approached by the offenders who pointed firearms at them. The woman was pushed to the ground and held at gunpoint while her keys and belongings were ripped from her hands.
When the husband attempted to intervene, he was also robbed of his belongings at gunpoint. The offenders fled in the victim’s vehicle which was later found by 4th District Officers. The Chicago Police Department said the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force began its investigation in partnership with the 22nd District’s Strategic Decision Support Center. Investigators managed to identify the suspects using private security video, CTA security video, and police security video.
A Chicago Police Department social media post says the offenders were apprehended on November 14, 2023. Both offenders are charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm. The 20-year-old has also been charged with three misdemeanor counts of resisting a police officer.
