Three people were shot in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday night. One man is deceased. Two other victims are suffering from life-threatening injuries. In a video statement, Office Truman Fitzgerald said that officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert in the 8200 block of 1st Avenue North around 7:40 p.m.
As BPD officers were responding to the scene, they observed two vehicles that had been involved in an accident with each other near the intersection of 83rd Street North and 1st Avenue North. Officers found the initial shooting scene in the 8200 block of 1st Avenue North.
At the shooting scene, two wrecked vehicles were found on the roadway near the East Lake Park entrance. Another vehicle crashed through the East Lake Park fence and stopped just inside. Near the wrecked vehicle in the park officers found an adult male and an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound.
A man inside the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound. The man inside the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two victims in the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
BPD believes that at least one person in the three wrecked vehicles was involved in a shootout. The drivers in the 8300 block of 1st Avenue North were not involved and may have been fleeing. No one is in custody at this time.
