Thousand Oaks Police deputy shoots suspect who allegedly had a knife and bow and arrow

A Thousand Oaks Police deputy was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday morning. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened around 6:50 a.m. on Sunday on Avenida de los Arboles.

The incident started when deputies contacted a 37-year-old man who was allegedly holding a knife. The man advanced towards one of the deputies in a threatening manner with another device which authorities describe as a bow and arrow.

VCSO says the suspect did not comply with verbal commands to drop the weapon and continued to aggressively approach the deputy. An officer-involved shooting occurred. Aid was rendered. The suspect was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.

VCSO says a knife and an item that looked similar to a bow were recovered at the scene. No deputies were injured. VCSO’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating along with the District Attorney’s Office. The involved deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
