According to a press release from the Salem Police Department, the Salem Police Department station lobby will be closed until Monday morning at 8 AM. The press release explains that a man entered the vestibule of the station, removed a shotgun from the bag he carried, and took his own life at approximately 1 PM. The Salem Police Department says officers arrived moments later to find the man dead from a gunshot wound.

Although the man is being described as 80 years old, the name of the victim is typically not released in instances of suicide. As a result of the unfortunate circumstances, the police station lobby at 333 Division Street NE will be closed while the incident is investigated.
