The League City Police Department says authorities have arrested a man who attempted to serve towards a deputy while they were setting up spikes. LCPD reports that 21-year-old Steven Joseph Jr. was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle and Aggravated Assault Against Public Servant.
Around 1:05 a.m. on August 31, 2024, an LCPD officer witnessed a red Dodge Charger speeding and committing other traffic violations while traveling southbound in the 300 block of North IH 45.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver increased his speed leading to a police pursuit. The pursuit continued into Dickinson and Texas City before returning to Dickinson.
At one point, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputy was out of her patrol vehicle with the emergency lights activated. As she was trying to set up spikes, the Dodge allegedly swerved towards her. LCPD alleges that Joseph did this to assault or intimidate the deputy.
Then, the Dodge returned to the correct lane. The vehicle came to a stop in front of a residence in the 2500 block of Avenue D in Dickinson. LCPD says Joseph exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A drone was used to help DPD officers and GCSO deputies take the suspect into custody.
The Dodge was towed back to LCPD for seizure processing. No other details are available.
