Tewksbury Police arrest 14-year-old for brandishing firearm at USPS mail carrier

The Tewksbury Police Department has arrested a 14-year-old for brandishing a firearm at a USPS worker. Chief Ryan Columbus reports that TPD arrested a 14-year-old Lowell juvenile for brandishing a firearm at a United States Postal Service mail carrier earlier this week.

The 14-year-old has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Firearm without an FID. Around 11:04 a.m. on August 13, 2024, TPD was notified of an incident in which someone pulled a gun on a mail carrier around 483 Shawsheen Street.

TPD responded to the scene where they saw a vehicle speeding on Whipple Road. Officers followed the vehicle to Tomahawk Drive where the driver bailed and fled on foot. Authorities from various agencies searched for the suspect.

A K-9 recovered a firearm behind a residence on Grasshopper Lane. On August 15, 2024, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for a 14-year-old who was identified as a suspect. The juvenile was taken into custody around 2 p.m. on Thursday.
