A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of a two-month-old baby. The Tallahassee Police Department reports that TFD and officers responded to the Casa Bella Inn and Suites at 2850 Apalachee Parkway around 11:30 a.m. on January 7 for an unresponsive infant.

The infant victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Special Victims Unit investigated the matter and determined that the infant died as a result of ingesting synthetic cathinone.

TPD says drug paraphernalia was also found at the scene and tested positive for the same substance. Detectives obtained warrants charging the father, 40-year-old Brandon Gavin, with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child. Gavin was released on July 18 while in the Leon County Detention Facility on unrelated charges.
