Two men have been arrested following an investigation into the thefts of two motorhomes. Sussex Police report that two motorhomes have been returned to their owner after the accused thieves were stopped by officers with the Roads Policing Unit.
On June 6 around 10.35pm, a break-in was reported at a commercial property in Lower Dicker near Hailsham. RPU officers from Sussex Police and Kent Police successfully tracked the two vehicles.
Officers stopped the first vehicle on the A228. The second vehicle was stopped on the M25 following a pursuit. During the pursuit, the driver of the motorhome allegedly damaged a Kent Police vehicle.
Sussex Police report that two men were arrested in relation to the incident. An investigation carried out by the Eastbourne Response Investigation Team led to nine charges being secured for the two suspects.
Sussex Police say 37-year-old Richard Pollard was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Driving Otherwise than in Accordance with a License, Driving Without Valid License, and Criminal Damage.
40-year-old Steven Songhurst was charged with Driving While Unfit Through Drugs, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Driving Otherwise than in Accordance with a License, Driving Without Valid Insurance, Criminal Damage, and Failing to Provide a Specimen of Blood for Analysis.
The men were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on July 5. No other details are available at this time.
