A suspect has been charged in the death of a 28-year-old Salem, Oregon woman. The Salem Police Department reports that Criminal Investigations Section detectives are investigating the death of 28-year-old Carla Fernanda Vasquez.

Around 2 a.m. on May 23, 2024, a woman was found lying in the roadway in the 1000 block of Rural AV SE. The victim, Vasquez, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. On June 20, 2024, SPD announced the arrest of 38-year-old Atilano Davalos III.

Davalos was taken into custody when SPD’s SWAT and SPD detectives served a search warrant in the 2900 block of Mendocino Drive NE. Davalos was booked into the Marion County Jail on a charge of Murder in the Second Degree.
