Sumter Police Department says disturbance call led to attempted stabbing of police officer

The Sumter Police Department has arrested a suspect who is accused of trying to stab a police officer. According to SPD, a man has been taken into custody following a disturbance call earlier this week. Around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to Gaines Road following an emergency call to remove someone from the residence.

When officers reached the scene, the caller was outside the residence. Officers spoke to the caller when the man allegedly pulled out a knife and lunged at one of the officers. The officer managed to maintain a safe distance before the man responded to commands and dropped the knife.

24-year-old Keith Undray Anderson Jr. has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
