Sumter, South Carolina – The Sumter Police Department has announced the arrests of two suspects in connection to a deadly shooting on Saturday night.
According to SPD, 34-year-old Tevon Demetrius Guess was identified as a suspect and taken into custody on Sunday. Guess is charged with Murder, two counts of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.
SPD said in a statement that a second suspect, 39-year-old Melvin Shirell Belle, was identified and turned himself in this afternoon. Belle is charged with Murder and two counts of Attempted Murder.
According to police, additional charges are pending. Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to the Rodeway Inn at 226 North Washington Street for a shooting.
At the scene, officers were directed to a room where they found 28-year-old Raekwon Rasheen Reyes Owens deceased. A 25-year-old woman was shot and remains in the hospital in stable condition.
Police say a 26-year-old Sumter woman was in the room but was not injured during the gunfire. The suspects and victims are considered acquaintances, according to SPD.
