The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating the death of a 15-month-old infant. SCSO says its deputies responded to the scene of a deceased infant at South Sumter Middle School around 4:18 p.m. on Friday.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates that a 15-month-old infant was unintentionally left unattended in a motor vehicle parked at the school. Police say the child was with a family member and was supposed to be dropped off at daycare.
However, the family member forgot the child and went to the school. SCSO says the child was discovered still in the vehicle deceased later that day. No other details are being provided at this time.
