The Arkansas State Police has commented on the fatal shooting of a Stone County deputy earlier today. According to a press release from ASP, a Stone County Sheriff’s Deputy was fatally shot while on duty around 4:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Police say a suspect has been taken into custody.

Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long requested assistance from the ASP Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the matter. The Arkansas Department of Public Safety will field media inquiries. No additional information is available at this time. Authorities are preparing for a press conference that will be scheduled in Mountain View as soon as possible.
