A 59-year-old Denair man is finally in custody following a length armed standoff with SWAT. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office reports that firefighters and patrol deputies responded to the 2900 block of Salluce Drive in Denair for reports of a motorcycle on fire in a driveway around 2:25 p.m. on August 12, 2024.
Neighbors and people passing by called authorities to report seeing the homeowner and his wife involved in an argument outside. SCSO says it later learned that the man, Hurshel Vernon Myers, was armed with a firearm.
Firefighters and deputies reached the scene before firefighters got the fire under control. The woman was taken to safety. SCSO alleges that Myers began threatening first responders with great bodily injury or death.
Myers allegedly barricaded inside and refused to surrender. Deputies eventually obtained a search warrant and an arrest warrant. SCSO alleges that Myers committed felony criminal threats, weapons brandishing, and resisting, delaying, obstructing, and threatening an executive/peace officer.
The standoff finally ended around 6:37 p.m. when Myers stepped outside. SCSO says he did not follow commands leading to a short struggle in the yard. K-9 Renzo was used to help detain the suspect in the driveway.
Following the incident, Myers was taken to an area hospital for treatment of dog bite injuries sustained during his arrest. Myers will be booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center with a bond of $150,000.
