St. Joseph County, Indiana – The St. Joseph County Police Department has announced the arrest of a shooting suspect. According to police, the Warrants Division was in Mishawaka conducting a fugitive investigation around 2:15 p.m. when they found a potential vehicle the suspect was in.
As the suspect vehicle made its way into South Bend, SJCPD says it asked South Bend Police to initiate a traffic stop. During the stop around 2:30 p.m., one suspect stepped out of the vehicle and cooperated with police.
Authorities claim the wanted suspect, 21-year-old Deshon Gates, jumped into the driver’s seat and crashed near the Morris Performing Arts Center.
Gates was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation. Authorities say he was also wanted on felony drug violations out of Elkhart.
Gates was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
