Springfield Police arrest parents for tasing their child as discipline

The Springfield Police Department has announced the arrests of 44-year-old Brandon Rogers and 36-year-old Heather Black for allegedly abusing and tasing a 7-year-old boy. SPD and the Department of Human Services initiated an investigation following a report of child abuse involving a 7-year-old boy with multiple injuries all over his body on September 17, 2024.

SPD says Rogers and Black were identified as the boy’s parents. During the investigation, authorities claim it was learned that the parents had physically abused their son. Police say they tased the boy as a form of discipline on two reported occasions.

On October 4, 2024, SPD detectives say they located Rogers and Black at their residence and arrested them for Assault III, Unlawful Use of a Stun Gun, and Criminal Mistreatment I. Detectives say they carried out a search warrant at the residence and found multiple items that corroborate the incident.

Detectives say they began processing a large volume of digital evidence, including multiple hours of video surveillance. Rogers and Black were released from the Lane County Jail. Authorities say a “more heinous environment was discovered where Rogers and Black were physically abusing their son multiple times a day for multiple days in a row using a Taser and other weapons.”

They are also accused of menacing their 4-year-old daughter on multiple occasions using a Taser. On October 29, 2024, Rogers and Black were arrested again. Detectives are still looking through video evidence so additional charges are possible. The children are now living with other family members.

Brandon Rogers is charged with Assault II x5, Criminal Mistreatment I x5, Unlawful Use of a Weapon x7, and Menacing x7. Heather Black is charged with Assault II x3, Criminal Mistreatment x3, Unlawful Use of a Weapon x5, and Menacing x5.
