The Springfield Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to an early Sunday shooting. SPD reports that its officers responded to a call about a man shot in the parking lot of the Wicked Superstore at 425 East Kearney around 3:22 a.m. on July 28.

At the scene, officers found evidence of a shooting. The victim, 31-year-old D’Vaunte Tavon Grant, was transported to a local hospital by a citizen. The victim died a short time later. SPD’s Homicide Unit identified 34-year-old Isaiah Church as the suspect in the fatal shooting.

On Sunday afternoon, detectives obtained information that Church was at 1350 North Lexington. A perimeter was set up. Following a short standoff, the suspect surrendered to authorities without incident.

Church was booked into the Greene County Jail for 2nd Degree Murder.
